barbados

The easternmost of the Caribbean Islands, Barbados is known as the gateway to the West Indies. Our experience of these islands is that it simply has it all – the weather hardly ever drops below 25c in the winter months and rarely goes above 30c in the summer, which means it is a fantastic spot to sunbathe, relax and enjoy the wealth of outdoor activities in near perfect conditions.

Barbados really has become a waterman’s paradise in the past few years, delivering conditions suitable for pretty much every water-bourne activity going. On any given day you are likely to see windsurfers, kitesurfers, surfers, paddle boarders, spearfishers, divers and snorkelers. Just pick the activity that the conditions are perfect for on the day!

A relatively small island, Barbados takes on two distinct characters on the east and west sides. The rugged east coast is home to the majority of the surf, windsurf and kitesurf spots, exposed to the swells and trade winds of the Atlantic. Generally rocky with impressive sea cliffs and dotted with secluded sandy little coves, this area of the island is a joy to explore and discover.

The west coast is altogether calmer, made up of large sandy beaches and luxury hotels – you’ll find excellent golf courses, marinas, calm seas and light winds here.

Oistins and St Lawrence Gap are the places to party in the evening, a short drive from the kite and windsurf hot spots of Silver Sands.

Although there are bus services on the island, we would recommend hiring a car during your stay here, as you really would miss out a lot if you were to just stay at your resort. You drive on the left too, though that is where the similarity with home ends!
