The Kitesurfing
The Kitesurfing
The small town of Corralejo, based in the north of Fuerteventura, is the most central location to base yourself for an excellent week of kitesurfing. The north coast of Fuerteventura boasts some phenomenal wave spots for advanced kitesurfers and dedicated surfers, as well as the odd secret bay with calmer conditions ideal for learning. Whichever beach you choose you can be sure that there will be a large and sandy launching area away from the crowds.
Flag Beach, the most popular kitesurfing spot as it is the nearest to Corralejo and a 15 minute drive from the centre. It is a very long and wide beach that is best at high tide and when the wind is north easterly. Low tide is best avoided here as some rocks can become exposed
El Cotillo, a 25 minute drive from Corralejo, is a large sandy bay with a more northerly wind direction that is best surfed at low tide. This is a great spot that can offer huge waves or flat water depending on the swell. You can check with one of the local surf shops for the up-to-date conditions.
Sotavento is the opposite end of the island and about 60km from Corralejo. Sotavento is home to one of the most consistently windy beaches and uniquely, has a lagoon that fills up at high tide for beginners. More details on this resort can be found here.
When the wind turns North East, it passes over Lanzarote first which sometimes disrupts the conditions in Corralejo. On some days when there is no wind on Flag Beach, you will find that El Cotillo has perfect conditions – local knowledge rules!

Ideally positioned with on-beach facilities and a full set of courses to teach you how to kitesurf in all wind conditions. If your course needs to be completed from a boat then no problem, the centre boat ensures total flexibility to move around the island to find the best conditions.
