Situated in the southern part of Fuerteventura, Sotavento offers long sandy beaches, aquamarine seas and a reliable wind! Just over an hour from the airport the area is relatively undeveloped and surrounded by a national park.
Like the north of the island, trade winds are squeezed between land masses to accelerate wind speeds. Add to this a thermal effect and no wonder Sotovento has featured on the windsurfing world cup circuit for so long.
The windsurf centre is located 3km south from Costa Calma, right beside the Hotel Melia Gorriones. This is the ideal spot for a holiday that combines superb windsurfing & kitesurfing with a great hotel to relax in. The set-up is ideal for families or for those with non-windsurfing partners. Alternatively, for those that prefer self catering, take an apartment on the hill overlooking the centre and the beach!

Centre, Courses & Kit
The Centre
Our partner has two centres 3 kms apart with a tidal beginner’s lagoon in between, making it an ideal location to safely learn to windsurf. Depending on the tide, the off-shore ridge of this lagoon kicks up waves of up to 2 metres so also offers something for the advanced sailor. Off the water, you can relax at the centre under the palm trees on a sun lounger and enjoy the spectacle of windsurfers and kiters alike whilst you top up your tan!
The centre is fully equipped and staffed by a team of English speaking international instructors who will be happy to get you started on the right path or to help you complete that dynamic move that you have been practising.

This intensive course covers safety, kit set up, wind awareness, uphauling and tacking, culminating in getting going and sailing the board forwards and backwards. Maximum 8 students per instructor. Kit is included in the course. |
