The Cape Verde Islands are an archipelago 500 miles off the west African coast consisting of ten islands. In many ways they bear an uncanny resemblance to The Canaries, though perhaps because of the remoteness of the location, they have escaped the sheer scale of development that you see in some Canarian islands.
Just a 6 hour flight from the UK, they are the nearest islands to Europe within the tropics and boast year round sunshine with incredible windsurfing and kiting conditions for most of the year.
Originally a Portuguese colony, The Cape Verde islands gained independence in 1975, and have been steadily growing in popularity since then. The official language is Portuguese, though the most commonly used dialect is Cape Verdean Creole – of course in the more touristy areas English is widely used too.
Our holidays focus on the small island of Sal, the most north eastern of the archipelago. As this is the flattest of all the islands, trade winds roll over the terrain unobstructed and offer up the best conditions available.
A trip to Cape Verde can be so much more than just a watersports holiday, the perfect white sand beaches, year round temperatures that rarely dip below 25c and a fantastic choice of accommodationand mean this is a great beach holiday for anyone!
The island is an exciting melting pot of cultures due to the mix of African and North European inhabitants. The locals enjoy partying, with festivals being held at every opportunity creating a friendly and lively atmosphere.
