The Kitesurfing
The Kitesurfing
El Gouna is one of our favourite kitesurfing destinations. It offers huge areas of warm shallow sea to enjoy at 2 main kite beaches, smooth reliable winds and a great range of accommodation. It is a great value for money destination, and difficult to beat for kiters of any level! The shallow, flat water and incredibly reliable winds will really help you progress whether you are a complete beginner or looking to nail your first handle pass.
Directly off the beach you can experience flat, shallow water for nearly 1km before a reef and deeper water with wind-blown chop to play in. The prevailing wind direction is north easterly, so cross on from the left, which can be anywhere from 12 to 28 knots.
Although El Gouna is affected by the tides it’s possible to kitesurf at most tide states, and you’ll probably welcome a couple of hours rest when the water is at it’s lowest! However, it’s alwasy a good idea to call us for advice in order to maximise your time on the water!
There are two main places to kite from in El Gouna:
Movenpick Beach – a fantastic spot for families and parties who are travelling with both sun worshippers and kiters – the hotel is located right on the beach so it’s easy to combine kiting and non kiting activities without having to travel to and from the beach. As it’s a private beach there also tends to be fewer people kitesurfing at this spot. It’s a great kitesurfing beach which never really gets busy. The inner lagoon is a great spot to learn in, or you can buddy up and kitesurf over to the outer lagoon (about 500m off shore, but don’t worry, the kite centre keep an eye on you!) and enjoy several football pitches of shallow flat water, pretty much to yourself!
Mangroovy Beach – this is a fantastic spot which is located up wind from the Marina. It has a huge beach which is home to three kitesurfing centres which have their own individual kitesurfing zone. There is shallow water and miles of open space upwind of the kiting zones, offering fantastic kiting in warm waters for all abilities. This is the beach you’ll go to if not staying at the Movenpick, and it really is something special!
