The Kitesurfing
The Kitesurfing
The Kitesurfing in Safaga is unique as you kitesurf directly from the beach at the Shams and Menaville hotels; take a boat trip to the top of Kriasi Bay or Kitesurf over to Tobia island and classic flat water conditions.
Shams beach – the beach at Shams is zoned for Windsurfing and Kitesurfing. The Kitesurfing zone is at the upwind end of the bay where a small section has been cordoned off to one side of a bigger public beach that maybe wider and longer but is littered with sharp “kite ripping” objects.
The sea conditions are typical to Egypt so calm to choppy water and shallow for 30 meters or so, watch out for a section of reef just at the point of the beach.
Menaville – The hotel has recently cleared the fixed umbrella`s so launching from the beach is now possible. Sea conditions are calm to choppy but not so shallow here, however a few tacks out to sea and you can reach Tobia Island and some epic kitesurfing.
Tobia Island – Launch at the Menaville beach and kitesurf maybe 2 tacks upwind and you can reach the island. The kitesurfing here is as good as anywhere else in the world, flat, shallow azure water and a lagoon that is pretty much 300 metres square that can only be described as freestyle heaven.

Centre, Courses & Kit
The Centre
There are two centres in Safaga, one at the Shams and the other at the Menaville. Both offer kitesurfing lessons, kit rental and beach support for launch land and safety.
The centres have a good team of English and French instructors to teach you everything from the absolute fundamentals in the beginner course, to water-start and power control techniques for the Intermediates, not forgetting more progressive sessions for the advanced riders.
