The Kitesurfing
The Kitesurfing
We’ve been sending clients to Nabq for quite a while now and over the years it has been a longstanding favourite. Calm, shallow water, smooth winds and a great team at the kite centre make this a true favourite for everyone.
Beginners really would struggle to find a better spot, being the perfect place for learners to make their first few rides on a board. The water remains calm and shallow for a nearly kilometre before the reef which shelters the area from the rolling swells further out to sea. For freeriders, directly in front of the kite centre you have a perfect freestyle arena, where you can show off your skills to your heart’s content. Due to the sheer size of the lagoon the spot never really gets that busy.
For those that would like to kite in the waves, a not-so-secret spot awaits you, just a 20 minute kite upwind from the launching spot at the kite centre. On windy days, here you will find a beach break fuelled by the rolling swells travelling south through the gulf of Aqaba. While we’d stop short of calling Sharm a dedicated wave destination, it’s a worthy option should you start to tire of all that lovely flat water!
The whole kiting area is zoned to keep beginners and freeriders apart, which makes for a stress free session for freeriders and a safe, non intimidating environment for those just starting out.
Normally the wind blows from the north east and is strongest in the morning, starting as early as 6am and blowing through until lunchtime. They say the early bird gets the worm, and this is especially true for Nabq!
During the winter months the wind can blow all day. A good indicator of a big day ahead if the wind is still blowing late in the preceding evening, so take it easy on the beers if the signs are there!!
If you fancy staying on the water when the wind eases, then you can paddle around the bay on the centres stand-up paddleboards or even jump on a windsurf board and take a look at the wreck of the Million Hope, a cargo ship that has come to rest on the reef after foundering there in 1996.

Centre, Courses & Kit
The Centre
The kitesurfing centre is located a short walk from all of our hotels and in front of Regency Plaza Hotel. Kevin, Di and Pedro run an excellent operation with a fantastic team of instructors ready to get new customers up and riding and more experienced riders landing that elusive trick.
For those beginning to kite, all teaching takes place in the water with full size kites on short lines from the start, meaning you get used to both being in the water and using the same equipment throughout your stay which really helps your progression. For freeriders, not only do the beach staff help you set up your kites and lines, but at the end of your stay they will also wash, dry and pack your kites ready for your trip home, a perfect end to a great trip.
