A visit to Lemnos is a refreshing experience. For years a strategic military post, the inhabitants of the island did not really start to see tourists until relatively recently, and even now the flow from the rest of Europe is just a trickle rather than the torrent that you would find in some more famous destinations. Here, you’ll find pretty villages, white washed buildings with blue doors, locals passing the day with a coffee, authentic tavernas and incredibly tasty fresh food.

Lemnos is an island that is very fertile and much of it is given over to vineyards, olive and fruit groves. It is located in the North Eastern Aegean, which is perfect for getting the maximum effect of the reliable Meltemi wind. Small sleepy picturesque villages punctuate the rest of the island and the pace of life is slow, so if you’re driving you will no doubt encounter farmers and their donkeys making their way along the quiet lanes!

The island has a choice of superb beaches with the jewel in the Lemnos crown being Keros bay. This is an extraordinary 3 mile sandy beach with crystal clear shallow waters and as it is part of a national park, no buildings and development is permitted. It is hard to think of a safer, more perfect set-up.

The beauty of Lemnos is that its diminutive size means you can stay pretty much anywhere on the island and still have easy access to Keros beach. The furthest point on the island from the kite and windsurf centre is just 25 minutes away. That said, for a truly remarkable trip, we would recommend our new glamping option that is situated very close to Keros beach and run by our partner centre. These ‘safari style’ tents have all the mod-cons you could wish for, whilst also serving up the best view on the island – something to savour while enjoying a sundowner on your own private terrace!
