Having only recently opened its doors to tourism, a visit to Lemnos is like stepping back in time to the real untouched Greece. Located in the North Eastern Aegean, perfect for getting the maximum effect of the reliable Meltemi wind, Lemnos is an island of approximately 470 km sq. The land is very fertile and much of it is given over to vineyards, olive and fruit groves.

The main town, Myrinia, is on the south western edge of the island, a bustling & pretty place wrapped around an impressive Venetian castle. Small sleepy picturesque villages punctuate the rest of the island and the pace of life is slow so if you’re driving, watch out for the locals on donkeys making their way along the quiet lanes.

Superb beaches abound but the jewel in the Lemnos crown has to be Keros bay, an extraordinary 3 miles sandy beach with crystal clear, shallow & turquoise waters on the quiet east coast of the island. This is where the kitesurfing and windsurfing takes place on Lemnos and its hard to think of a safer, more perfect, set-up. A sandy beach with shallow in-shore waters runs the length of the bay and the reliable, clean Meltemi wind blows cross-on in the summer. This really is the perfect environment to learn as first of all it’s a gorgeous location. Secondly, the inshore waters are shallow and sandy, perfect for mastering the basics. And finally, the worst thing that can happen to you if your kite or sail does go down is that you will drift downwind to the southern section of the beautiful sandy beach from where you will just have a pleasant 15 minute walk back to the kite centre.
