The Kitesurfing
The Kitesurfing
Kitesurfing in Keros bay is pretty unique and a great playground for kiters. Within minutes of launching you can be racing cross the glassy flat water at the northern end of the bay or enjoying the southern end of the bay which has some great rolling swells. The water stays pretty shallow for around 150m out to sea, making this an ideal spot for beginners to make their first few forays into the world of kiting. Add to this that you have a spacious sandy beach, no rocks to navigate, a meltemi breeze that comes in with no obstruction and beautiful surroundings then it is without doubt a great spot.
At the kite centre the vibe is laid-back and relaxed. Rik and Giannis, the owners, are both IKO level II instructors and thanks to their extensive kite safaris around Australia, speak excellent English. They do a great job of making everyone feel welcome and part of the team whilst maintaining excellent safety standards. There is some shade from the sun and storage for those who bring their own kit. Snacks and drinks can be purchased further down the beach from a small beach bar. Lessons take place right in front of the centre in the shallow, warm water – it really is about as good as it gets for learning. Lessons follow the IKO progression method and modern Cabrinha kites and boards are used for lessons and rentals.
