Mauritius Kitesurfing

The Windsurfing

The Windsurfing

Picture a white sandy beach with warm, shallow turquoise coloured water. There is a tidal lagoon in front of the beach which is surrounded by a reef, making the perfect spot for practicing carve gybes, water-starts and good old straight line blasting.

Summer winds in Mauritius generally come from the east or south east which is cross-shore from the left and usually force 3 – 5. From April to October it is winter time in the southern hemisphere and the trade winds kick in, giving a wind range of force 4 – 6.

Outside of the lagoon there are two great wavespots; ‘Little Reef’ is perhaps better for first steps in waveriding and ‘Manawa’ for the more experienced sailor. Aside from windsurfing there is of course kitesurfing, surfing, wakeboarding and dinghy sailing which can be arranged locally.

Kit wise, you can try the latest Mistral and Fanatic boards topped off with North rigs; top quality kit for a top quality destination!

Centre, Courses & Kit

The Centre

The centre itself is situated in front of the Indian Resort beneath a handful of palm trees and within a few steps of the water’s edge. Next door is the pool and beach restaurant – what more could a kiter or windsurfer ask for?

Mauritius is tidal, so please be aware that at certain times of the day water activities can be limited or not possible – the staff will brief you about this locally. Windsurfing tuition takes place directly in front of the centre in an area which is shared by experienced kitesurfers and windsurfers.
