“A gorgeous location with incredibly reliable wind, loads of space and an attractive little village to boot! – A great choice for families and parties with non–kitesurfers.

Fast gaining a deserved reputation for offering reliable conditions in an idyllic location, Gokova has until recently been one of Turkey’s best kept secrets. A beautiful 3km wide bay fringed with lush green woodland, thermally generated winds you can set your watch by, acres of flat, shallow, warm water and a long obstacle-free beach makes for a dream combination.

It’s no wonder the great and good of kitesurfing, such as Aaron Hadlow, Luke Whiteside, James Boulding and Hannah Whiteley, rate Gokova as one of their top training destinations.

Located less than an hour from Dalaman Airport on the Aegean coast in South Western Turkey, Gokova has become a firm favourite with our customers. Thanks to the surrounding topography, Gokova Bay is a classic thermal sea breeze location. As long as it’s sunny and hot – pretty much a given during the summer months – it will be windy.

The village itself (named Akyaka) is located at the northern end of the bay, about a 25 minute walk from the kite beach. Akyaka is made up of a collection of small hotels, guest houses and villas. In amongst these are a number of bars and great value restaurants, while up the banks of the river there are some really excellent fish restaurants where you can enjoy dinner in the company of the odd wild boar grazing in the reeds on the other side of the water!

We’re also really glad that Akyaka has been granted ‘slow town’ status in Turkey, meaning that development is strictly controlled and a huge amount of effort is made to preserve the unique beauty of the village, ensuring that Akyaka, in its present form will be there to enjoy for many years to come.

For the odd days when the wind doesn’t blow, there are a wealth of activities to choose from, including SUP and sea kayak safaris. Off the water, there are several exciting day excursions to choose from.

Recent testimonial:My experience with Waveriders was great from start to finish. Jim was very helpful and suggested the perfect destination for me to get started in Kite Surfing. Gokova in Turkey was great; very low key, secluded beach, consistent wind, flat water, great for surfing. The kite school was located on a great beach and the instructors were brilliant: really friendly, knowledgable and patient!Aaron
