The Kitesurfing

In our opinion there really could not be a more perfect set-up. Warm shallow water and reliable, on-shore winds ensure rookies and experts alike progress at a truly astounding rate with one to one tuition as standard by our partner kite school.

Kitesurfing takes place at the southern end of the bay about a 25 minute walk from the resort. While many choose to walk each day, if you are feeling lazy take advantage of the boat shuttle which you can pre book with us.

The wind in Gokova is a classic sea breeze. You will wake up in the morning to a tranquil mill pond outside your window. After breakfast you can start to see the first few ripples on the water as the Gokova valley is warmed by the sun, pulling in fresh air from the sea. This thermal wind is further accelerated by the venturi or squeeze effect of the steep hillsides on either side of the bay.

A light onshore breeze usually starts around 10am, picking up to 18-20 knots by lunchtime and keeps blowing through to sunset – no rushing around in the morning to get to the beach, this is what a holiday should be; a lie-in won’t be at the cost of a kite session!

Once you’re on the beach walk into the water and the first 150m are shallow, providing plenty of space for beginners to learn the basics safely and for capable riders to go for those new moves with confidence.

You can launch either side of the large man made jetty, which forms a divide between the freeriders and the teaching zones, with acres of space to practice new tricks in the flat shallow water.

On the beach there is a good size launching & landing area as well as a café offering hot and cold food and drink throughout the day as well as some welcome shade and comfortable seating.

Board shorts and rash vests are the dress code between June and September, which are the best months to visit Gokova.

Freeriders taking their own gear can store it at the kite centre for a small fee and there’s also a repair shop to assist with any kit failure. Good quality rental kit can be booked through ourselves.

Important update: The Turkish government has introduced a local tax to use the kite beach. This tax is approximately 10 Turkish Liras per person per day and has to be paid locally.

Centre, Courses & Kit

The Centre

Our kitesurfing partner centre is located only a 25 minute walk along the beach from the resort, ensuring plenty of space to launch/land kites without having to worry about sunbathers. If the pleasant walk seems too much like hard work, the school provides a free boat shuttle between the resort and the kite centre for pupils – (small charge for freeriders). For those with their own kit we do not advise walking to the beach but suggest that on the first and last day you avail yourself of the boat service to transfer your kit to the beach. After that you can choose whether to walk or not.

The Centre is well organised, with the emphasis on safety and service. Qualified English speaking instructors provide tuition in a shallow, spacious area, perfect for learning the ropes and gaining confidence. A café, WC and shower add the creature comforts avoiding the need to return to the resort more than necessary.
