Isla Margarita is a mountainous, tropical, Caribbean island paradise located 60 miles off the north shore of Venezuela and neighbours the small, idyllic islands of Coche and Cubagua, as well as the stunning Los Roques archipelago. It is blessed with an average of over 320 days a year of sun, beautiful white sand beaches, temperatures that are never too hot or too cold and a diverse landscape including mangrove swamps, mountains and semi-desert.
Our windsurfing and kitesurfing holidays are centred at two different locations; the windy village of El Yaque on the south side of Margarita Island, which has become a premier watersports destination and is just a 10 minute transfer from the airport, and the quieter, sparsely inhabited Island of Coche (just seven miles long and four miles wide), a 30 – 40 minute boat ride from El Yaque.
Each spot offers a contrasting experience – the livelier El Yaque with a small number of hotels, restaurants, watersports schools and shops, compared to Coche which consists of the beach and three all-inclusive hotels. Coche offers a more idyllic, peaceful Caribbean experience, not to mention superb flat water and consistent winds. El Yaque has more life, more wind and slightly choppier conditions than Coche, and is also a good base to explore the rest of Margarita Island. A stay in both locations is recommended.
