Intro
Windsurfing Courses
Get to grips with this exhilarating sport in warm water, under blue skies and the well trained eyes of an international team of instructors for whom windsurfing is a way of life. Whether you are taking your first steps on a board or a weather-beaten wavehead, we can help you make a big leap forward in your sailing ability.
All our centre partners have a full learn to windsurf programme and private coaching to give you the most progressive results in a format to suit your needs. We have hand picked these centres for their high standards of tuition, their location and, most importantly, for their quality and range of kit.
These pages provide a basic guide to the stages and levels of courses provided in resort. Usually each stage will take about 8-10 hours to progress with professional instruction and quality water time.
Of course, some aspects of windsurfing can be self-taught. However, in our experience and having done some of it the hard way, you will learn ten times faster being shown what to do rather than trying to work it out for yourself!
If you have any particular questions about learning or the courses, please give Joe a call on 01273 224069.
Beginners
Beginner Courses
These courses are for complete beginners with no prior knowledge of windsurfing and will teach you the basic theory and practice of windsurfing. This will include balancing on the board & up-hauling the sail, stance, sail position and tacking. After the course you will be able to sail to a chosen point on the water and return to where you started from in light winds.
Many of our destinations are superb for learning to windsurf, but it does depend on the time of year you want to go – so please take a look at our calendar to see when’s best to go where.
Progression
Progression courses
Non-planing
These courses will help fine tune the basic skills and make your windsurfing faster and more fluid. New techniques such as the beach start and harness work will get you ready for the excitement of blasting in control.
By the end of an intermediate course you will be comfortable on all points of sail (directions) in stronger winds, be using beach starts and tacking and gybing faster. The next stage will be to start planing and this will change your sailing forever.
Planing
This second stage of the intermediate course will build on your skills to get the board planing, giving you a taste of real speed! The course will cover harness and ft strap techniques, along with improving your stance and knowledge of windsurfing theory.
All our destinations are superb for progressing your windsurfing skills, dependent on the time of year you are looking to travel – so please take a look at our calendar to see when’s best to go where.
Advanced
Advanced Courses
Having learnt to sail in ft straps and a harness in planing conditions, you’ll be ready to tackle dynamic transitions on an advanced course. Just as planing opened up a whole new world, once you can water-start reliably then you can drop your board size and sail it like you stole it!!
Our advanced courses will help you master planing techniques, the water-start and infamous carve gybe. These moves are broken down, simplified and backed up with the relevant theory. Additional clinics will help you with duck gybes, 360’s, jumping and other advanced manoeuvres.
